The Forest & Shade Tree Committee was established to select appropriate species and sites for planting trees in high visibility places in the town center and along key roads and with a particular focus on the Town Common. The committee works with the town’s Tree Warden to assess and monitor the health of shade trees and recommend possible trimming and removal of potentially hazardous trees. The declining health of many of our roadside trees, especially the White Ashs, is a challenge. The Committee selects replacement trees of a variety of speciesand helps plant and care for them. The Committee also supports the Petersham Wood Bank operated by volunteers at the town’s Transfer Station.
