Wood Policy & Wood Bank

This Town Wood Policy is being adopted following deliberations by the Forest & Shade Tree Committee to provide a means of community support and a sense of fairness for the distribution of otherwise surplus property among Town residents.

In the process of generating a Town Wood Policy, the Forest & Shade Tree Committee also identified the value of and potential demand for a Town Wood Bank.

Resources & Helpful Information

What’s going on with the White Pine?

During the spring of 2016, a dramatic decline of eastern white pine (Pinus strobus) has been observed throughout southern New England. Needles of mature trees become straw‐colored to brown before they are prematurely shed from the canopy. In some cases, only a few main branches are symptomatic whereas on other trees, the entire canopy exhibits the symptoms. One feature of the decline is that despite signification needle browning and premature shedding in the canopy, the current seasons needles are elongating and appear healthy. Why are all the Ash Trees Dying?

Ash trees are dying primarily due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), a beetle from Asia whose larvae tunnel under the bark, disrupting water and nutrient flow, eventually killing healthy trees within a few years.

The official Town Website will launch on Friday, April 17th.
